Best COVID-19 Wedding Advice: Wait Til Late 2021 or Spring 2022

March 1, 2021 marked the one year anniversary of my very first wedding of the 2020 season.  The butterflies are always in my stomach as I get ready for my clients, but there are always a few extra flying inside me on the first wedding of the season.   I'll always remember that brisk and chilly Sunday afternoon for Ripley & Alaina out at Alhambra Hall in Mt. Pleasant. They'll forever be one of the few bright spots on what would become a very dark and depressing 2020 wedding season.  Ripley & Alaina’s taste in music was right in line with mine; they loved their 80s music. One thing that was not ever on my mind was the pandemic that has turned the wedding industry upside down since last March.  I look back a year ago now and saw COVID-19 as peripheral noise on the news in the days and weeks leading up to the shutdown. It's scary to look back one year to see how this virus has fundamentally changed how we live our lives. With the vaccine roll-out, things are going to continue to get slowly, but surely better. I predict confidence among modern brides and grooms to continue to increase. But if you are recently engaged, I think you should wait and schedule your wedding in late 2021 or into 2022. Your wedding is meant to be the happiest day of your life. There may never be a better day in your life than when you get to marry your best friend. You've been dating for years.  What was your proposal like during this first ever COVID-19 pandemic engagement season? Did you both sneak off to a quiet restaurant? Were you guys wearing matching masks? When you said "yes", did you remove your mask and defy social distancing guidelines and give him a huge kiss and hug? I hope you did!  Unfortunately, this pandemic has killed a lot of innocent people and disrupted so many lives, but one thing it has not killed is "love".   After all, he is the love of your life and you are one of the luckiest women in the world for getting to marry that hunk of burning love. :) Hear me out. Enjoy your engagement. This is a new phase in your relationship. Just take a deep breath and enjoy this new journey together. Why am I telling you this?  Because I have been witness to hundreds of weddings. I genuinely want your wedding day to be a success. I want your wedding day to be one of the happiest days of your lives. I want your guests to look back on this day with a smile 5 years after your big day.  Sounds like a great idea, eh? Well, based on what I saw in most of 2020, I would like to make a recommendation to you. Wait. That's right. I said it. Just wait a little while longer.  Good things always come to those who wait.

Why Is DJ Mike Bills Telling Me To Wait To Get Married?

"The Future's So Bright" (You Gotta Wear Shades)" could be appropriate as the vaccines begin to roll out.  Even with the recent news that there could be enough vaccine for all adults by May or June, I still think you should wait to hold your wedding.  If you just got engaged over the holidays or around Valentine's Day, consider choosing a date for your wedding late in the fall of 2021, the winter of 2022, or even the spring of 2022.

 The Longer You Wait, The Less You Will Worry.
How did I come up with this assessment? Well, I gotta be honest. It's not really my assessment. It's the viewpoint of a lot of the modern brides and grooms who have visited my website over the past few months who are interested in hiring me.  Modern brides and grooms are doing the research and leg work, reading blogs, and doing their homework about what it's been like getting married during a pandemic. They've heard the horror stories. They don't want to have to worry about their well being or their guest's well being.  They've heard about ALL the extra preparation that has gone into making a reception hall more COVID-19 friendly. They've heard about all the extra expense required to make sure hand sanitizer is easily accessible all over their wedding venue. They've heard about the inconsistent temperature checks that have been happening at various venues. They think a personalized mask with their wedding date on it is cute, but would rather not let COVID be the focal point of their most special day.

Your Wedding Day Is A Fun, Laid Back Party.
Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime day. Do I sound like a broken record?  (be sure to add some Talking Heads to your wedding playlist too). Let's face it. Weddings are very social gatherings. How can you maintain a safe social distance if you are at a social event, like a wedding? The answer is you cannot, and please don't try because your once in a lifetime wedding will not be the event you'll remember 5 or 10 years from now.  Waiting until the late Fall of 2021 or the first half of 2022 will give you a better chance of lessening any restrictions you were thinking about when you got engaged.  And if you are having destination wedding, your guests will be much more comfortable in travelling should you wait on your wedding date. 

Longer Engagements Mean Cost Savings
Most of the modern brides and grooms I've spoke to over the past few years are interested in making sure they are debt-free (from their wedding) when their wedding is over.  Many modern brides and grooms may have experienced financial difficulties over the past year with COVID-19 too. In some instances, their finances may have also been disrupted to the point where they may not want a really big wedding, or just wait until things get better financially.  Depending on how much you plan to spend on their wedding, money savvy couples can easily arrange to have most all of their expenses paid for before their wedding. This means you'll have even more fun on your honeymoon too. 

Enjoy Your Engagement And Keep Your Fingers Crossed On Vaccinations
As you can see, there are plenty of benefits for waiting out this pandemic. I could not have written this post a year ago, or even 6 months ago. There was way too much uncertainty back in the Fall. Very few brides were hitting the website inquiring about spring 2021 because the outlook was still uncertain. Any weddings happening in the spring of 2021 were most likely carried over from 2020.  Now that we've talked about the ideal times you should be getting married after the COVID-19 pandemic, let's talk about the latest blog trends, which mean music.
