Hello Gen Z: Pick A Wedding DJ Who Is Focused On Quality

10 August 2025

Hello Gen Z. You are probably looking for a wedding DJ, but not just "any" wedding DJ. I want to take this time to congratulate you on your recent engagement. You've probably got a lot going on right now and the last thing you need is misinformation.  I want to take this time to cut through all of the crap and noise that is probably being thrown at you right now.  You need a reliable source to help you find the right wedding DJ for what will become one of the most special days of your life.  Having been in the wedding industry for close to 15 years, I've seen all types of weddings and know a thing or two when helping modern brides and grooms achieve the vision on their wedding day as it pertains to their wedding music.  I've come to know Gen Z very well over the past several years.  You guys are very smart and savvy, and probably even used AI to find me. Did you know that can use AI to help curate and assemble your wedding playlist? Be sure to bookmark my blog as there will be a post coming on how to use AI for your wedding playlists.  There's a reason why my wedding DJ blog is one of the visited on the internet. I provide my current and future clients with reliable information on how to find the best wedding DJ that fits them as a couple. Listen. I know you are smart. I know you are intelligent. I know that you probably take longer to make decisions as it pertains to your wedding day. It's totally ok. I completely understand. If I were in your shoes, I would be very skeptical, especially with some of the outlandish information coming from wedding DJs in my own market recently! The biggest takeaway I'd like you to get from reading this post is to keep it in the back of your mind to find a wedding DJ who is focused on "quality".

The moment you submit your email to any of the big box wedding websites, you are going to be fed nonsensical emails loaded with guilt and a reminder to buy their services. Since Gen Z couples are smarter than Big Tech and a lot of may even work for "Big Tech", it's in your best interest to find seasoned wedding vendors the old fashioned way. Do it through Google. For more information on how to use Google to find your wedding DJ <---CLICK HERE. At this point, you are probably wondering why I am telling you to find a wedding DJ who is focused on "quality".  Well, the wedding DJ who is concerned about "quality" is also genuinely "concerned" about the outcome of your wedding day.  Let me just tell you. I am a non-traditional wedding DJ. After you finish reading this article, you should do a Google Search to see exactly what a "non-traditional" wedding DJ is. I'll save you the trouble of that extra Google search. Click HERE to learn about hiring a non-tradtional wedding DJ.

Stay Clear Of The DJ Who Brags About Reviews And Their "Quantity" of Weddings

As a savvy Gen Z bride and groom who is looking to get married and is on the hunt for some of the best wedding vendors, stay clear of the DJs who have it ALL over their website how many weddings they have done. True professional wedding vendors who are truly confident about their performance and experience don't waste any whitespace on their website bragging about the number of weddings they've done. The only wedding that counts is YOURS. Gen Z brides and grooms are smart. They can see through some of these falsehoods and overblown content. I've spoken to a lot of future brides and grooms this year and they don't care how many weddings you've done. Let's be honest. They want to make a decision on who their wedding DJ is going to be with a few simple points. If you have a wedding DJ who touts such a large amount of weddings on annual basis, how tired are they gonna be when they arrive to your wedding venue? Are they really going to have time for you as you try to piece together the perfect wedding playlist? How available and approachable are they really going to be? I'll be the first to tell you that reviews and referrals are important, but if a wedding DJ has to mention their reviews all over their website in every available piece of whitespace, they are adding all of that unnecessary content because they are unsure of their abilities as a wedding DJ and think that plastering it all over their website is going to make them feel better. Gen Z brides and grooms are smarter than this can see right through this stuff and they will click past that cheesiness. I am an owner-operated wedding DJ service who places the "focus" on the modern bride and groom. I am ONLY booked for one wedding per day, which means there is no worry about who your wedding DJ is going to be. "Quality" means focusing on each and every wedding client. You can't really be taken seriously if you feel the need to brag all over your website. Seriously, Gen Z don't care. :)

PLANNING TIP: Most True Professional Wedding Vendors Only Take On A "Select Number" of Weddings per year

I see it all the time and it is very refreshing. Whether it's a wedding planner, a caterer, a photographer or a wedding DJ like myself, we care about the quality of service we are going to be providing our clients. We know that it takes a lot of effort to give our clients an amazing experience with our services. We also respect the industry to the point that we feel it's in our best interest not to overextend ourselves to the point of burnout; because it's at that time our reputation might be at risk if our performance is not at its very best. Simply put, I will not have another opportunity to be your wedding DJ because you only intend on getting married one time. You've spent thousands of dollars on this day, so the music needs to be perfect. Who am I kidding? Everything needs to be perfect.

Find A Wedding DJ Who Does ONE Thing Perfectly

After close to 15 years of building an online presence as a wedding DJ, I can tell you with a straight face that I am still focused on the music, and always will be. One of the things that ensures I will always provide my clients the utmost in "quality" of service is my laser focus on one thing; music.  You've heard the old saying; "A jack of all trades is a master of none". It's never been more apparent in the wedding industry.  As the owner of an owner-operated wedding DJ service, I know my limitations and I certainly cannot be in two places at the same time. My business model is simple. Keep it simple with one client and perform at one wedding per day. You never have to worry about overextending yourself and you still get to build and maintain your brand. One of the reasons my blog is one of the most visited all over the web is because I've made it a point to specialize in "music" only. I am not interested in nickel and diming you to make more money (I don't need the extra) from you. So much of my competition now offers everything under the sun and by doing this, they increase the amount of the money they are charging you. While I know we are in business to make money, can you really trust that those wedding DJs can really provide all of those services perfectly? I doubt it.  I've seen what happens when someone takes on a bunch of additional services to make money, their business suffers and eventually gets destroyed. Finding a "quality" wedding DJ means hiring someone who is focused on one thing - "the music", and not anyone pressuring you to add on a bunch of extra services. You deserve the best mix of music for your wedding day. You'll have close to a 100% chance of finding a "quality" wedding DJ if you find someone who has passion and remains focused on ONE thing.

PLANNING TIP: Consider NOT Having A Photobooth At Your Wedding

Perhaps I may be blacklisted for posting anything related to NOT having a photobooth, but as much as you think that your guests are going to partake in it, oftentimes the photobooth just sits and remains unused during most of the evening. No matter how many announcements the wedding DJ makes to let everyone the photobooth is there, it still remains under-utilized.  I don't want you to think that I don't like to have fun, because I have rocked some amazing weddings over the years. I just know that Gen Z might be more tech savvy than prior generations. The only reason I bring up photobooths at all is because I don't provide them, and I know if there is a reason you don't hire me to be your wedding DJ, I want you to be prepared to be bombarded by wedding DJs claiming they own the Holy Grail of photobooths and are the consummate experts. Remember what I said up above about a "jack of all trades".  If you insist on having a photobooth at your wedding, please check out my Preferrred Vendors page for a classy and elegant photobooth experience. Hire a company who specializes in photobooths. Hire a company who is an expert in photobooths and who does not sell one as an add-on. If you are looking to be different as a lot of Gen Z brides and grooms want their wedding to be, place a disposable camera  or even a Polaroid camera at each table at your wedding. I've also seen some really neat Selfie Stations you can rent. Also, I've seen a new class of wedding vendor who has burst onto the scene over the past several years; the content creator.

The Bride And Groom Should Always Be In Control Of Their Wedding Playlist

Whenever I see a hint on a wedding DJ's that they want some type of control over the wedding playlist, I laugh. These are the wedding DJs who believe that weddings are about a "one-size fits all" playlist. In my close to 15 years of wedding experience, I can assure you that this is so far from the truth. Every single wedding couple comes to me with differing tastes in music. There is no way that a DJ can assume he knows what kind of playlist that he or she needs to put together for their client. A wedding DJ is that focused on "quality" will bring up music as early as the discovery call. If the bride and groom are indifferent about music or need a little nudge about how to design their wedding playlist, the wedding DJ who focuses on "quality" is already going to schedule additional calls to help in getting started about putting together their wedding playlist.

PLANNING TIP: Create a Spotify Playlist that is on-going during the course of your engagement

Since before the pandemic, I've moved all of my playlists over to Spotify to help Gen Z brides and grooms like you get inspired to create their wedding playlists. You should also be on the lookout for wedding DJs who make these outlandish statements about having millions of songs in their catalog.  As a wedding DJ who has worked with some of the pickiest brides and grooms when it comes to music, I am constantly refreshing my catalog, but bragging about how many songs I may have in my database would be silly and unprofessional. It's another one of those moments where  wedding DJs had some extra whitespace on their website, so they felt it appropo to become a braggart instead of a wedding DJ. No one cares about how many songs you have! Remember "quality" over "quantity" always. No need to guide people into thinking you have millions of songs when only a certain amount will be able to be heard during the average wedding reception. A Wedding DJ Focused On 'Quality" Will Also Be A Great Emcee

Being a great emcee is not something you just pick up in a few minutes, it can take years and years to master this part of being a great wedding DJ. I became a wedding DJ after spending several years in broadcasting, so I already had the right pipes to make as little or as many announcements at my clients wedding.  I cannot emphasize this enough. A wedding DJ with a terrible voice is the equivalent of hearing your most-hated song on replay all night long. Beware of the DJs who speak on the mic as though they are in the club. This is totally disgusting and degrades the entire wedding DJ craft. Your wedding DJ does not need to occupy space on the microphone all night just to hear themselves talk. You'll usually see this with unpolished and amateurish wedding DJs who probably should not be talking on the microphone at all because they simply do not sound good. The discovery call could be a good time to eliminate some of the wedding DJs you are considering, just based on how they sound on the phone.  You can generally get a good idea of the quality of a DJ's voice by speaking to them on the phone.

PLANNING TIP: Listen To How Your Wedding DJ Speaks To You On The Phone

The Tacky Lighting And Special Effects Will Ruin Your Wedding Decor

For me personally, I've never be one to get caught up in all of these tacky effects. They have no real place at your wedding. If you've hired a wedding planner who has discussed a vision with how you would like the decor at your wedding reception to look, the types of wedding DJs who I have mentioned throughout this post are sure to bring them WITHOUT letting you know and they will make your wedding look like a show from Las Vegas. You are going to a wedding reception, not the Sphere in Las Vegas. When we talk, I will tell you how many wedding planners have given me a hug when I tell them I do not bring lights to my weddings. Most recently, I remember sitting down with a bride and groom as we were having a quick call to discuss the final details and this bride asked me again if I was bringing lights with me and I told her a resounding "No".  For me to say that I am "wedding planner friendly" is an understatement. You've spent thousand of dollars to hire a wedding planner for their expertise and design experience. You do not want to throw all of that down the drain by hiring a wedding DJ who will more or less play with lights while they DJ your wedding.  Leaving the tacky lighting and special effects at home is a true sign that your wedding DJ is a putting the focus on "quality"

If You Think A Wedding DJ's Website Is Cheesy, It Probably Is

True professional wedding DJs don't just throw a website together with amateur developers or even worse, build it themselves. They actually sit with a real designer who has been making websites for years and years who helps them choose the right content and imagery so that they can put together their brand.  Gen Z brides and grooms are smart and savvy to the point where they can see the overbearing and repetitive content thrown together on the homepage of a wedding DJs website. This is so obvious at times and modern brides and grooms need to avoid this at all cost. I am a classy and elegant wedding DJ. I don't do anything cheesy or promote any of that rubbish on my website. What you see is what you get. A guy who is passionate about providing his clients the best musical experience possible.  Wedding DJs who focus on "quality" are going to go the extra mile to build, develop and protect their image online. Their going to create a website that defines them as a wedding DJ / business. A wedding DJs' website is a huge part of their resume. If you feel it looks cheesy, it probably is, as they are as well. You might also consider hiring a wedding DJ who makes it a point to only do mostly weddings too.

PLANNING TIP: Look Closely At The Content On A DJ's Website.

Ready To Hire A Wedding DJ Whose Focus Is On Quality?

Thank you so much for making it all the way to the end of this post. Wow. What an amazing piece of writing it turned into today, eh? Perhaps I got a little long-winded because of the rainy weather here in Charleston today? Sometimes I am inspired to set the record straight when I see a lack of attention.to detail and misinformation spewed out here in cyberspace. I would love to be your wedding DJ. Even if you decide to not hire me as your wedding DJ, it is my hope that the one thing you pick up from me and website blog here is that "quality" will always win over "quantity". When we are talking YOUR wedding, we are taking about ONE event, so the fact the wedding DJ is bragging about hundreds of events to try to get you book them is not relevant because they may still ruin your wedding. Quality will always win over quantity and I hope I get the opportunity for you to share my passion of helping brides and grooms curate the best wedding playlist for their most important day. To get the process started, all you need to do is click the link to my Contact form so you can tell me some quick tidbits about your big day and a good time to speak. Thank you so much for visiting my website and I look forward to speaking with you.
