The Status Of The Wedding Industry And My DJ Business

09 February 2025

Happy New Year! Yeah, yeah I know. It's Super Bowl Sunday. Why is he publishing a new blog and wishing everyone a happy new year! Well, due to time constraints as I wrapped up some personal goals of mine early in January, I've been enjoying some down time on the weekends.  I've been out of commission as it pertains to the blog.  The good news is all of the work I've put in over the past 8-9 months that took me away from the wedding business is in my rearview mirror.  The bad news is the wedding industry remains the same as it has been over the past year, which is a new normal that has developed since the end of the pandemic.  While I've been on other projects, the wedding industry continues to "oversaturate", making it even harder to find your clients than it was 5 short years ago.

The truth of the matter is there is no test or exam you take to join the wedding industry. So many vendors fake their way into thinking they are the best option for you. They'll put together this cute Instagram or Facebook profile with a bunch of pretty photos, most of which are stock images, but they want you to believe they've been a part of 500 weddings.  My advice to every Gen Z bride and groom who might have been told to book their wedding vendors from IG? Tread lightly and be very careful.  Nearly 5 years ago, before some of the first COVID cases, I published one of the best blogs to describe the oversaturation of the wedding industry. <---CLICK HERE to read over that article. For those of you who might think that things have improved since the publishing of that article, I am here to say it has not and it's gotten worse.

Being a part time entrepreneur running a wedding DJ business in one of the top wedding destinations in the country has been one of the best experiences of my entire life. I've been able to be a part of hundreds of weddings and events over the years and have been able to spread my total focus and passion for the music to all of my clients.  When you've been in business as long as I have, you are able to spot the trends and are able to map out the highs and lows of the wedding industry.  Over the past 3 -4 months, I've been listening to one of the leading wedding consultants in the country and I've been relieved to learn I am not alone and that what I thought was actually happening in the wedding industry, is really happening.  The wedding industry is in a downward cycle and the average wedding vendor has to work harder to book the same amount of weddings as 3-5 years ago.  Even luxury weddings are seeing a tick down in activity.  It's not hard to fathom that weddings would take a hit in a world with higher prices and inflation, and a high degree of political uncertainty.  I've seen firsthand that weddings are not being looked upon the same way with Gen Z as they were in previous generations.  If you are in the wedding industry, it's time to either accept this or move on and let the more seasoned and experienced wedding vendors resume the legacy they've created.  My apologies if my last statement sounded a bit harsh., but the bar is really low when it comes to entering the wedding industry right now. Anyone thinks they can pull it off and their failures get in the way of top notch customer service that is normally carried out by the seasoned wedding vendors.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A SEASONED WEDDING VENDOR?

One of the most glaring realizations I've gotten since I began listening to this leading wedding industry consultant is how much we are on the same page. From being able to successfully map out the up's and down's of the wedding industry over the past 15 years to describing Facebook groups as "garbage", I have been like "this guy must be my brother from another mother".  For the purpose of this blog post, we'll define a "seasoned wedding vendor" as someone with over 10 years of experience, a nice amount of quality reviews, and an excellent web presence. In my next blog post, I will be discussing some of the things I've learned in the podcast, as well as from a brief exchange I've had with this consultant.

WHAT ATTRACTS SO MANY CLIENTS TO MY WEBSITE?

In trying to determine what prospective clients really want, I believe as a savvy wedding business you need to keep track of the hard numbers. I've managed to spend hours and hours generating the best content that is aligned with my passion as a wedding DJ. That being a wedding DJ whose sole purpose is to provide the best mix of music to his wedding clients.  Ever since I've had a blog online, I've written about the very things that I truly love; music and providing the best tips on how to find the best wedding DJ for you as a couple.

In 2024 alone,  my website saw a staggering 121,000 unique visitors.  While a lot of this traffic went to my blog, and may not have completed a contact form to inquire about wedding DJ services, I am absolutely beside myself that so many people have been drawn to my website over the past year and share in my passion for the music.  When I dig into those 121,000 unique visitors, I learn that they are spread out among 113 countries.

WHAT ARE BRIDES AND GROOMS CLICKING ON?

If you are just hitting up this blog for the first time, you probably can tell that I am unabashed in my deep love of 80s music. What can I say? I grew up in the 80s. I live and breathed what was going on back then and was exposed to some of the best music created. Based on the analysis of a lot of the traffic to my website, I can see that modern brides and grooms agree. I mean, as a professional wedding DJ, I can see what modern brides and grooms want, and even in 2025, Gen Z desires some of the best music of the 80s.

In 2024, nearly 30% of page views on my website were pages associated with 80s music. The most popular page of my website was Volume 1 of The Best 80s Love Songs For Wedding Playlists. If you are in the beginning stages of putting together your wedding playlist, I invite to click over to that link to see what the fuss is all about. I think you'll agree that a lot of those wonderful 80s songs may be perfect for the dinner music portion of your wedding day or even for your first dance

THE BEST WAY TO SIFT THROUGH THE COUNTLESS AMOUNT OF WEDDING VENDORS

I recently sat down with a prospective client who would become a client. I could tell when we first sat down they looked a bit overwhelmed at all of the searching for wedding vendors they had done up to that point. You can dramatically cut down your search for the best wedding vendors by staying on Page 1 of Google. <---CLICK HERE for a blog archive. You'll notice that most all of the wedding vendors you see on Page 1 of Google in your web searches are very serious about meeting you. They have professionally-designed websites and truly want to find you and meet you.

WHAT'S YOUR NEXT MOVE IN YOUR WEDDING PLANNING?

Well, as has always been the case, modern brides and grooms need to go with their gut instinct as it pertains to securing the best wedding vendors. That being said, if you landed on my website and you are really liking what you see and want to learn more, let's set up a time to talk so I may begin to learn about your personality and vision to determine if we are a good fit. And before you ask, you'll have a pretty good idea on if we are a good fit if one thing applies: YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE A PASSION FOR THE MUSIC, and want to hire a wedding DJ who is determine to craft the best mix of music for your wedding playlist. It is my belief that it's the music that matters when it comes to making the most memorable experience for you and your guests.  I wanted to take this time to thank you for finding me online.  Perhaps this post has given you a general idea of how hard it might be in 2025 for me to find you. Consider my website as my own little slice of the internet and an area where you should always feel welcome and always get educated. Coming up in my next blog post, I will be discussing some of the things I've learned in listening to one of the leading wedding consultants podcasts over the past few months. In the meantime, I invite you to read over the rest of my blog and if you would like to set up a time to speak with me, please click HERE to fill out a contact form. You'll be asked to plug in a few details about your wedding. Thank you so much for finding me and I look forward to hearing from you.
