About Mike Bills Entertainment

Passionate. Professional. Perfectionist.

You know if you had told me when I was 10 or 15 years old that I would end up becoming one of the best wedding DJs in one of the top wedding markets in the country, I would have laughed at you. While music was a big part of my life growing up because of my Baby Boomer parents and hearing their music, I had no idea I would become a DJ. Becoming a DJ happened by chance, but when it did happen, it hit me like a ton of bricks and forever changed the course of my life.

When I was in college studying to be a computer scientist, I met a guy who would play a role in allowing me to find a passion that to this day I still love. His name is Mitch Zatto, and at the time, he was working in radio here in Charleston. I bumped into him at my grocery store job while in college. We ended up exchanging phone numbers and the next thing I knew I was interning with him at various radio stations around  town. It wouldn’t be too long before he helped me get my first on-air announcer position.

The radio bug continued for me for about a decade. I loved radio, but didn’t like the direction that the industry was going and didn’t want to leave Charleston, so I got out. Long before I formed my own DJ company,   I had a brief experience as a wedding DJ. I worked for a company here in town, but found it difficult to adhere to a lot of the cheesy stuff that was going on in the industry at that time, so I did not last. Being cheesy and “over-the-top” is really not in my DNA, and it certainly did not mesh well with all the personas I had developed while working in Top 40, Classic Rock, and Adult Contemporary radio.

After leaving radio, I really missed playing music. I thought about being a wedding DJ again. I knew I could pull it off, but it would have to be on my own terms by creating my own brand. That brand would be defined as a true professional wedding DJ that’s classy and has the perfect voice for announcements, who is fun, knows his music well, BUT is NOT cheesy and over the top.
