Guide To Selecting The Best Wedding DJ For 2024 And Beyond

01 November 2023

You know if we stand on our tiptoes, we can begin to see the first day of 2024. Perhaps you are in the beginning stages of planning your wedding. If you are like any modern bride or groom, you are going to begin to be bombarded by all types of wedding vendors. In a world where everyone is a wedding planner, a caterer, a florist, a photographer, a wedding DJ, or lighting specialist, there must be a way to weed out all of the low hanging fruit and spam. There has to be a way to sort through all of the inexperienced wedding vendors who are trying to undercut the seasoned wedding vendor veterans. Instead of turning you off by a lot of unnecessary emails, I felt like this would be a good time to introduce myself to you again. Maybe this blog post is your first introduction to me. Welcome to my website and blog. I hope I can help you find the best wedding DJ in 2024 and beyond. You deserve the very best for what will become the most memorable day of your life.

Let me cut to the chase. I am a serious business owner.  I am a seasoned wedding DJ who is interested in finding modern brides and grooms who are true lovers of music. I've been doing this long enough to know exactly who my ideal client is. As a savvy business owner, you make investments in your business so that you can find your ideal types of client. I've invested thousands of dollars into my website and digital marketing over the past several years so that I can find modern brides and grooms who are interested in finding a top wedding DJ. It's that simple. You better believe if given the opportunity to pay for an opportunity to find you, I will. In addition to spending a lot of money to get my wedding DJ business in front of your face, I've invested in advertising with the Charleston Visitor's Bureau.

PLEASE DON'T CLICK AWAY

Before you click away from my website. Here me out. Your name was given to me because you registered to receive a copy of the Charleston Wedding Guide. The Charleston Visitor's Bureau and Explore Charleston are the creators of this guide and are responsible for building the wedding industry in Charleston over the past 10-15 years.  I paid an annual fee to be in the midst of other serious wedding vendors in the Charleston, SC area. You could very well be one of those brides and grooms who are in the Midwest or Northeast who heard about how awesome weddings in Charleston are. Well, I'm here to tell you that the wedding vendors who have invested in their business by advertising with the Charleston Visitor's Bureau are generally world-class vendors with solid reputations. I hope I still have your attention, so please don't click away.

Over the years, most of the weddings I've DJ'ed have been from clients who don't live in Charleston. My website has always been optimized to catch those destination brides and grooms, but since COVID, I've seen a little bit of a decline in destination weddings. Times and tastes change, but one thing that remains the same is the passion I have for creating the best musical experience for my clients.

The graphic you see up above is how I wanted my business to be represented to YOU on the Charleston Wedding Guide website, as well as the printed guide itself.  If you performed a Google search from wherever you are located and came across the Charleston Wedding Guide and had one sent to you in the mail, you are well on your way to securing your top notch wedding vendors. Every single wedding vendor you see on the Charleston Wedding Guide or the printed guide has paid a premiuim price to be able to access the knowledge that you are interested in having a wedding.  Since these vendors have paid a premium price to access that information, there is no time to spam you with a bunch of emails.

What is a non-traditional wedding DJ, you ask?

I don't want to create any sleepless nights for you, but what if I told you that there was once a time where the wedding DJ was one of the most feared investments of the modern bride and groom?  Yeah, and it doesn't seem like this was the case too long ago! Yeah, wedding DJs used to load in a bunch of tacky lighting and props and pretend that they knew how to show you how to do the Electric Slide or Cupid Shuffle. By being a non-traditional wedding DJ, I bring to your wedding reception a rig of professional grade gear, all the music you want to get everyone on the floor and NO tacky lights.  For more information about my non-use of lights <---CLICK HERE - For more information about what a non-traditional wedding DJ is <-----CLICK HERE

Classy & Elegant.

I don't believe in taking over your event. The best wedding DJs compliment your wedding reception by making the necessary announcements during the evening and keeping the flow at a perfect level. The last thing that a modern bride and groom need at their wedding reception is a wedding DJ who takes it upon themselves to put the spotlight on them. This spotlight might entail boisterous jokes on the mic and even tacky self promotion with banners. No classy wedding DJ would EVER hang a banner at a wedding reception.  Geez, I just cringed at the thought of this while I typed it out. :)

Experienced On The Mic.

There is no easy way to put it. The wrong voice at your wedding could ruin your wedding. As a matter of fact, you can think of the wrong voice the same way as your wedding DJ playing all those songs you added to your Do Not Play List. Before I got into DJing weddings, I spent several years on the radio and learned how to develop my voice. Experienced, seasoned wedding DJs will speak to you and your guests as though we are sitting across from each other having dinner. The key to making announcements at a wedding reception is sounding natural and conversational. Wedding DJs got a terrible wrap for many years because they all attempted to show off and talk like a gameshow host or auctioneer. And one more thing. Experienced and seasoned wedding DJs would not think twice about using the microphone to make off color or embarrassing remarks or crack jokes. You hired a wedding DJ, not a comedian. Trust me. You'll want a professional, experienced wedding DJ who doesn't need to hear their voice, but instead is more focused on keeping the flow of your evening moving efficiently and keeping you and your guests on the dance floor.

Focus On The Music.

I decided a long time ago that I was going to develop my brand and image around one thing; playing music. If you should decide to set up a time for a quick call, I'm not going to go through any high pressure sales tactics trying to get you to purchase a photo booth or put a bunch of uplights around your venue. There are so many specialty companies in and around the Charleston, SC area that can take care of this for you. For some reason, modern wedding DJ companies have developed into companies that want to be all things to all people.  If the fact that I am more interested in making sure we put together the best wedding playlist for your big day than uplights, we weren't meant to work together. My former clients will tell you that I have spoken to them about this in our introductory calls and meetings. And I will tell you this; there are a ton of wedding planners out there who appreciate the fact I won't ever lug a tacky light rig into a wedding and mess up all the decor!  The success I've had as a wedding DJ is built on the fact that it's the music that truly matters. No one has ever specifically requested that I bring tacky, blinky, laser lights to their wedding, and they won't. That's not classy!
