Real Charleston Wedding DJ Playlist | Becky & Josh At The Hyatt House

27 May 2018

Since I've got a bit of relaxing downtime on this Memorial Day weekend, I thought I would catch up on a few blogs from some of my 2018 spring weddings here in Charleston. Becky and Josh were married at the lovely Hyatt House in the heart of the Charleston Historic District at 560 King St back on April 14. I was the DJ for their wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I met Becky and Josh, along with Becky's mother back in January. I knew from the some of the comments made during our first meeting that we were going to be putting together a playlist that was quite a bit different that what you hear at most other Charleston weddings. But, as the old saying goes: "Different is good." How was the music going to be different?" Well, I knew when her mom said she liked Led Zeppelin and Alice In Chains that things were going to be dramatically different. :) With bands like that, I definitely knew there was going to be some classic rock thrown into the mix at some point. You'll want to read on and see what they added to their Charleston wedding playlist.

About a month before their April wedding, I got together with Becky and Josh over coffee to discuss how they wanted the music to be for their wedding day. These initial meetings are extremely important and necessary for the bride and groom. They are necessary because oftentimes there are couples who have lots of questions about their music. Included in the cost of having me DJ your Charleston wedding are these types of consultations. Not only are these consultations designed to be "information-gathering" sessions to find out more about a bride and groom's personal tastes, they are a time where the DJ can get to know everyone as well.  After all, the DJ is the one person you are putting in control of your entire wedding day to execute your timeline and get everyone on the dance floor.  Brides and grooms need to be comfortable with their DJ choice and these brief consultations are designed for that very reason as well.  During our meeting, I went over the major parts of their wedding ceremony. Ceremony Prelude Music. Parents / Grandparents Processional Music. Bridal Party Processional Music. Bride Processional Music. Recessional Music. Also, during this meeting, we made a decision to design an 80s Music Cocktail Hour, and play more of a classic rock vibe during dinner after the first dances.

Becky & Josh's Dance Music Selections
The only guidance that Becky & Josh gave me in regards to their dance music was to leave off the "cheesy" line dance songs that have become very overplayed at weddings all around Charleston. Of course if you have spent anytime at all on my website, you know that I had NO problem with that request. Becky & Josh's wedding at the Hyatt House was another one of the many weddings I've DJ'ed at where the line dance songs were left at home, but yet everyone still got out and danced. It was another wedding where I proved my point that line dances are NOT required to pack the dance floor. :)
