30 Best Garter Toss Songs For Your Wedding Playlist

10 December 2016

The garter toss is a part of your wedding reception that is steeped in tradition, but in recent years, it's popularity has dwindled. Perhaps it's because more modern brides and grooms find it cheesy, corny, or tacky. Maybe there are not a lot of single folks at your wedding? While some couples have "fun" performing this tradition at their wedding receptions, there are some who have approached me and let me it's not something they want to do. As one of Charleston's best wedding DJs, you'll want to check out this list of some of the most popular choices over the years for the garter toss should you decide you want a garter toss added to your wedding timeline.

Perhaps there won't be enough single guys there? Whatever your reason for proceeding with or not doing this tradition, it remains to be a fun, and usually performed at wedding receptions within 30-45 minutes after the dancing has begun. Enjoy this list of great songs that folks are using for the garter toss. Be sure to also find me on Spotify. You can find me as DJ Mike Bills. You can find this popular wedding playlist as well as others on there to help you design the best playlist for your wedding. If you are not on Spotify, you can simply scroll through this post and click on each song title to bring up a You Tube of each song.

It's hard to believe in 1996 that you heard this song on Top 40 radio.  The song would peak at #7 on the Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1996 as Mission Impossible  was one of the biggest movies of the year.
Back in 1975, this funky, disco classic hit the airwaves and became one of the biggest songs of the year.  The song would reach #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and is perfect for your sexy bride during the garter toss.
Lenny Kravitz did an excellent job on this classic from The Guess Who.  You might remember the song on the 1999 movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.  The song would reach #3 on the Mainstream Rock chart.
For those brides and grooms who like country music and who don't find this song offensive, "Save A Horse" (Ride A Cowboy) is a great choice.  Released back in 2004, the song would peak at #11 on the Hot Country chart, and does appear frequently on Do Not Play Lists.
Long before Lionel Richie had us singing "All Night Long", he was part of The Commodores singing about the absolute perfect looking woman on the dance floor.  "Brickhouse" meant that a lady had it all and was beautiful. The perfect song for your garter toss and the woman you love.

The sexy, smooth voice of Barry White has a been a huge favorite for a lot of my clients over the years.  Throw this on during the garter toss for the ultimate in mood music for later in the evening.

Recorded in 1958, "The Stripper" would reach Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1962.  My guess is we were all stripping out of our clothes back during that summer.

I would have loved to have been a patron of a club back in July of 1991 when DJs got their hands on a copy of this song and dropped it for the first time.  Right Said Fred would go on to become one of the greatest one-hit wonders of the 90s as "I'm Too Sexy" would shoot to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Perhaps this song is near and dear to my heart because it was the Number 1 song in America the day that I was born.  Even if you don't decide to use this sultry classic for your garter toss, it's ideal for your DJ to throw on toward the end of the night before the last song.
