20 Most Requested Romantic Songs For Your Wedding Playlist
As we enter this second weekend of May, the temperatures are finally beginning to really heat up. After a fairly cool March and April, we're expecting some of the first 90 degree temperatures in Charleston as another incredibly business wedding weekend and season continues. At this time of the year, there is ALWAYS something going on around Charleston, as we're in the peak of another busy Charleston wedding season. With Charleston being the number 2 wedding destination, couples continue to travel here to make one of the most beautiful cities in the world the place where they begin their lives together. Music has always and will continue to be my main focus at Mike Bills Entertainment. With some recent tweaks in content, as well as imaging changes on my website over the past few weeks, it's been a while since I have blogged about what it is that I am truly passionate about. Music. As one of the top Charleston Wedding DJs, your playlist should not only be the most fun you can make it, but you should also put in it a lot of songs about "love". Simply put, this is the main reason you are planning the single most important day of your life, right? :) I am always in the mood to be blogging about "love".
While you don't generally want to totally fill your playlist with a bunch of slow songs, the following list has been updated to include some current love songs that are still heavily requested. These are some of the songs that can fill the dance floor and bring those folks to the dance floor with their partner who may not have been getting "low", just a few minutes earlier. For a Charleston wedding that is full of love, you'll want to read on.

As a result, I've set up a profile on Spotify with this playlist, as well as numerous others designed to provide wedding playlist inspiration. Just head over to Spotify and search for DJ Mike Bills.
"From The Ground Up" | Dan & Shay
One of the more perfect country love songs that's been released in the past 5 years. Released in February of 2016, I've seen this song added to lots of my clients wedding playlists. Take a listen down below, and then Google the lyrics and you;ll how this is an excellent song even if country music is not your thing. It was even used for the background music for a slideshow for a 2017 wedding of mine.
"Thinking Out Loud" | Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran has been on a tear recently by releasing some of the most ideal love songs that you can add to your Charleston wedding playlist. Where has the time gone? We're coming up on 4 years since the release of what has become a string of wedding masterpieces by Ed Sheeran. Released in the fall of 2014, this song became one of the most popular wedding songs of 2015 and early 2016. While it's been placed into the "recurring" category, it's going to continue to get lots of plays at Charleston weddings for many years to come. Back in 2015, there was one couple of mine who rehearsed the scene and re-enacted it in the music video you'll see below.
"Say You Won't Let Go" | James Arthur
Another beautiful song for your Charleston wedding indeed! This was released back in September of 2016 and once you have read over the lyrics, you'll see how this is the perfect song to add into your wedding playlist.
"All Of Me" | John Legend
We're coming up on the 5 year anniversary of the release of this wedding masterpiece. In case you did not know, John Legend dedicated this song to his lovely wife, Chrissy Teigen. Even though it was released in August of 2013, it didn't reach Number 1 until the spring of 2014, thus making it one of the most requested songs of the 2014 wedding season here in Charleston.
"Can't Help Falling In Love" | Elvis Presley
One of the wedding classics that will ALWAYS be on wedding playlists here in Charleston. I actually just used it a few weeks ago for Christy & Clay's wedding down at Marion's In The French Quarter. It was released in October of 1961, and later covered in the early 90s by UB40.
"Die A Happy Man" | Thomas Rhett
This song was released in the fall of 2015, and became one of the most requested country love songs at most of my weddings in 2016. It went all the way to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot Country song charts.
"Perfect" | Ed Sheeran
I promise that I am not wanting to sound "cliche" but this is the "perfect" wedding song. Remember how I said that Ed Sheeran has been knocking it out of the park? It was released in the fall of 2017, and has become one of the biggest and most popular wedding songs in 2018 on Charleston wedding playlists. Take a look at the lyrics, watch the video, and get your DJ to play it for you.
"Have I Told You Lately" | Van Morrison
As long as I am a professional wedding DJ in Charleston, this song will be on my Top 10 of my favorite love songs to play. You can play it during your wedding ceremony, your dinner, and you could even use it as your first dance song. It's truly one of the greatest love songs ever written. Rod Stewart covered it in the early 90s, but I believe the original by the great Van Morrison is much better.
"I Knew I Loved You" | Savage Garden
Back in the late 90s, you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Savage Garden. They were a duo from Down Under, and scored their second number one with this song back in early 2000.
"Unchained Melody" | The Righteous Brothers
"Unchained Melody" is up there with the Elvis Presley song you saw earlier in this post. It'll be placed on Charleston wedding playlists for the foreseeable future. I had no idea it's been recorded over a 1000 times, but the most popular version by far is the one that was recorded by the Righteous Brothers back in the mid 1960s.
"At Last" | Etta James
'At Last" is another wedding mainstay that is also another perfect song for your wedding ceremony, your dinner music, or even the first dance at your Charleston wedding. It was covered (actually quite nicely) by Celine Dion, but the Etta James will always be the most popular.
"You Are The Best Thing" | Ray Lamontagne
Wow. It'll be 10 years since the release of this song this summer. It was the first single from his album "Gossip In The Grain". If you are into more of a folksy and Indie vibe for a nice love song for your wedding, you will want to add this song into your wedding playlist right now.
"Make You Feel My Love" | Adele
Originally written by the great Bob Dylan, Adele did an amazing cover of "Make You Feel My Love" on her debut album "19" that was released in early 2008. Her album "19" ended up going triple platinum in America.
"Maybe I'm Amazed" | Paul McCartney & Wings
Paul McCartney dedicated this song to his late wife, Linda who died of cancer. Originally recorded in 1970, the version you see below was recorded in 1976 with McCartney's band Wings.
"A Thousand Years" | Christina Perri
If you are a big fan of the twilight series, you probably remember this song from the album "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn". There was a Part 2 of the song released in 2012. It's a modern song that has been used for lots of wedding ceremonies for Charleston brides and grooms.
"I Won't Give Up" | Jason Mraz
Jason Mraz is one of the most underrated modern musical artists of the past 15 years. This song was the first single from his 2012 album, "Love Is A Four Letter Word". It's a wonderful love song that you should consider adding into your Charleston wedding playlist.
"How Long Will I Love You" | Ellie Goulding
Originally written and recorded back in 1990 by the folk rock band, The Waterboys, Ellie Goulding released this amazing cover in the fall of 2013. It's another song that's been used for Charleston wedding ceremonies, dinner music, and first dances. Take a listen to it down below.
"God Gave Me You" | Blake Shelton
This song was originally written and recorded by Christian singer Dave Barnes, but it was Blake Shelton who turned it into a huge country hit back in 2011. It's still a popular choice for the brides and grooms who are a little bit country when it comes to their musical tastes.
"Into The Mystic" | Van Morrison
There should be no surprise that there is another Van Morrison song added into this song list of the greatest love songs at Charleston weddings. Into The Mystic will also be a mainstay on Charleston wedding playlists for many many years to come.
" I Could Not Ask For More" | Edwin McCain
You might remember this incredible song from the movie soundtrack of "Message In A Bottle" starring Kevin Costner and Robin Wright. It was released in early 1999 and later covered by country singer Sara Evans in 2002. Sara's version went all the way to Number 2 on the country charts.
