Cannon Green Weddings | Perfect Charleston Ambiance In The Heart Of The City

The growth of the Charleston wedding industry over the past decade has brought with it the introduction of more and more beautiful wedding venues. If you just decided that you'd like to get married in Charleston, but are undecided on your wedding venue, this post could very well help to sway your decision. First and foremost, if you haven't been to Charleston before, you need to be prepared to be blindsided by it's very high level of charm, history, beauty, and romance.  The peninsula of Charleston (also known as downtown) is where you could spend hours and hours on a rickshaw or carriage learning about the city's 300+ year history.  The charm of Charleston can be seen all over the peninsula with historic homes and mansions that have been well maintained over the years.  The owners of some of this real estate have seen fit to offer their properties to the Charleston wedding industry. I mean, what better way to experience the beauty and charm of Charleston than to feel what it was like 200 years ago and get married in an historic, colonial house or mansion? As one of the best Charleston Wedding DJs, it's been my aim to provide helpful content to all my clients coming to the Holy City to get married.  The next stop on my Charleston Wedding Venue tour takes me to Cannon Green.  You'll want to read on to learn more about this popular, new downtown Charleston wedding venue. 

Located in the Cannonborough-Elliottborough area off Spring Street, Cannon Green came to be when floral designer and current co-founder Anne Bowen discovered the space while searching for much needed storage for her ever expanding inventory.  We'll be getting further into how Cannon Green came to be, but let's go inside and meet Jacob Wright, who is the director of food and beverage at Cannon Green. Jacob gave me a quick tour of Cannon Green and I was immediately hooked. You'll find when you come down to Charleston to get married and tour the peninsula that there will be certain areas that just provide total peace and tranquility.  When Jacob showed me the courtyard of Cannon Green, I got a very peaceful and tranquil vibe.  After a brief tour of the venue, I sat down with Jacob and he answered some of the questions I had that could be helpful for brides and grooms looking to make a decision as to which wedding venue they would like to get married at when they come to Charleston.

When did Cannon Green open? Cannon Green opened it's doors back on December 9, 2014.

How did Cannon Green originate?  Our co-founder Anne Bowen discovered the property when she was looking for an area to expand her floral inventory.  She saw this sign off Spring St that was hanging on an old run-down Charleston single. She peeked inside only to find one of the most intriguing places in Charleston that she had seen up to that point.  Anne and her business partner Dave consulted with experienced hospitality entrepreneurs Lynn & Dean to take a look.  When you walk around the grounds, you'll notice Anne Bowen's garden and floral artistry which compliment very nicely  the designwork Lynn & Dean were able to accomplish with Cannon Green. Cannon Green is managed by the Easton Porter Group, who also has a sister property at Zero George. Zero George is a boutique hotel and restaurant also located on the peninsula of Charleston on George Street.  Easton Porter Group also manages some very fine proerties in Virginia, which include Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards in North Garden, and Red Pump Kitchen, a restaurant located downtown on the mall in Charlottesville, VA.

How many weddings are held at Cannon Green each year?  As the word continues to get out about Cannon Green, the growth in wedding bookings continues to increase year after year. In 2018, Cannon Green hosted a total of 50 weddings. Cannon Green is also the perfect location to hold a rehearsal dinner, a welcome party, corporate events, and other private social events.

How many guests can Cannon Green hold for a Charleston wedding? Cannon Green actually has a total of three different areas to provide guests with the perfect setting for yourwedding or event.  The Garden Room is 1,500 square feet and can host up to 70 guests for a seated dinner, upwards of 100 guests for stationed dinner, and 120 guests for a cocktail style event.  The Trolley Room is 3,000 square feet and can host up to 150 guests for a seated dinner and 250 people for a stationed dinner event.  You'll still have plenty of room for dancing after you eat dinner. What separates Cannon Green from all the other gorgeous wedding venues on the peninsula of Charleston? Do couples require a wedding planner / coordinator on contract when booking their wedding at Cannon Green?  It is highly recommended that couples hire a planner who will help them achieve their dreams and bring their vision to life. Cannon Green works closely with many Charleston wedding planners who range from full-service to day-of coordination and they can all be found on their preferred vendors list.

What all is provided when booking your wedding with Cannon Green? Included in the Wedding Services Package pricing are all the rentals necessary to present a remarkable experience for your guests.  In addition to securing the Courtyard and Trolley Room spaces, the Services packages includes all 66" round tables, linens, Chiavari chairs, custom bars, high top cocktail tables, china, flatware, and glassware for up to 250 guests. The Services package also includes outdoor heaters, lounge furniture, and professionally trained staff.

Does Cannon Green provide in-house catering? Oh yes! Cannon Green is excited to be working closely with our culinary team to provide seasonal menus that will present you and your guests with an amazing fine-dining experience. If you are coming to Charleston for a destinaiton wedding, you'll quickly find out you'll be in quite the "foodie city". It's fun to be able to represent that on a large event scale.

Do couples need to purchase any insurance when booking Cannon Green? It's not required, but it is highly recommended that you purchase wedding insurance for any unforeseen issues that may pop up.

Can couples bring their own vendors or are they required to use vendors on your preferred vendor's list? When booking your wedding at Cannon Green, you will be required to use the in-house catering for food and beverage, but are free to bring any other vendors into the planning process for your wedding. The preferred vendors list for Cannon Green is a great place to start looking for some of the most professional Charleston wedding vendors who have done a great job at Cannon Green.
