Mike Bills Entertainment has forged an impeccable reputation in Charleston over the years and has become one of the best Charleston Wedding DJs. It's been my belief from Day 1 that it is the "music" that truly matters when it comes to creating the overall vibe and feel of what will become one of the most special days of your life. While other DJs seems to be more interested in booking their next "gig" and playing with their twinkle lights or uplights, my focus will continue to remain solely on the music. You ever wonder what the best DJs do when they are not talking on the mic and spinning music? They are researching, researching, and researching even more. Their ear is on the radio, other blogs, and their eyes are on the Billboard Hot 100 charts seeing what is exactly trending.
The summer engagement season has come and gone here in Charleston. Even though we're still in the midst of the peak of another active hurricane season, it was such a huge relief to get past Hurricane Dorian with mostly some minor damage here in the Holy City. Believe me, seeing these hurricanes threaten Charleston in recent years is equally as stressful for me as a wedding vendor, as it is for my clients. When you are spending a lot of money to have the best day ever you need to have at your disposal great content for your research when it comes to finding your dream wedding venue, as well as the best wedding vendors. Since Charleston has catapulted itself into being one of the top wedding destinations, there have been some great blogs that have emerged over the years. These wedding blogs are wonderful sources of inpsiration. Perhaps you just got engaged and needs some new ideas? These blogs are some of the best that have caught my eye that deal with Southern weddings, and even more importantly weddings right here in Charleston.
Offering wedding ceremony music and proper PA and microphones is one of the other offerings I provide as a wedding DJ. The best Charleston Wedding DJs will be able to provide this music in a professional manner for your wedding ceremony at any location around Charleston. I've blogged in the past about wedding ceremony music, but since the summer's in Charleston tend to be slower than fall and spring, I thought I would throw together a refresher about what your DJ should be providing you when you need them to do your ceremony music. Your wedding ceremony is the beginning of an incredible night. It's a very special part of your day that requires not only special planning, but also special equipment. Even if your wedding ceremony is located at the wedding reception site, additional sound equipment is required. The true professional wedding DJs will be equipped to handle any situation. Because I am a stickler for details, I will (if needed) make the effort with the wedding coordinator / planner to schedule a site survey to see where I will be set up for a wedding ceremony. There is no room for error when preparing for a wedding ceremony and the number one request is the location of power. This provides peace of mind for not only me, but also the bride and the wedding coordinator / planner.
Welcome to my blog! At the time of the publishing of this post, I am happy to say that my blog has immensely grown in popularity and is one of the top wedding DJ blogs on Google. Over the years I've tried to carve out my own niche as one of the Charleston, SC area's top wedding DJs. My goal has been to stock this blog with lots of content about real weddings, DJ tips and music, and anything else you may need to know about making the best wedding DJ hiring decision for your big day. The music and entertainment are a very important of your big day and can mean the difference between the time of your life and years of wedding day regret. You know what's crazy? Brides and grooms STILL in 2019 leave it to the last minute to hire a wedding DJ. In doing this, they don't know that the best wedding DJs tend to fill up fast leaving them to hire a cheap one. which leads to forgettable and "regrettable" wedding day. Don't live a life of regret after your wedding, go ahead and plan on securing your DJ / entertainment "right" after you book your venue. So, in today's blog post, I am gonna go back and cover some basics in securing the best wedding DJ for you.
No matter the location of your Charleston wedding, your aim should be to make it a classy and elegant affair filled with the music you know and love. Whether it's a laid back afternoon and evening at grandmother's house in Summerville or a grand and luxurious affair at the Kiawah Island Club, brides and grooms should be aiming for a classy and elegant vibe. When I decided to create Mike Bills Entertainment, one of the primary goals was to alleviate any and all fears of hiring a tacky and cheap wedding DJ. While my humble beginnings as a DJ began back in the mid 1990s on the radio, I had a very brief stint as a wedding DJ back in the early 2000s working for a company here in town. It was so brief that I am surprised I was able to remember it, but I was able to remember it because I did NOT have a good time! Despite it's brevity, there were quite a few things back then that I observed that would forever alter my perceptions of professional wedding DJs and how they "should" act. Opinions would be formed that would put together my mission statement for how I would run my own company. The wedding DJ you hire is there to compliment your big day, not get on the microphone and say their name all night or hang tacky signs or banners. But I digress from talking about the type of wedding DJ you should hire. You'll want to read on to find out something that I decided was not as important, and that I opted to leave out of my wedding performances, but still earned me a solid reputation as one of the top Charleston Wedding DJs.
You know one of the biggest parts in creating my brand as one of the best Charleston Wedding DJs was making sure that I provide all my clients a classy and fun experience. Being a "classy" wedding DJ for me has always meant conducting myself "professionally" at all times. The DJ should dress professionally, as well as talk professionally. Another part of being a "classy" DJ is keeping the playlist "clean". While some brides and grooms might be tempted to throw on some club-like music with explicit lyrics, I am here to say to try to keep those songs off of your playlist. Be considerate of your wedding guests, your parents, and your grandparents. Your Charleston wedding is going to be one of the most memorable days of your entire life. It's a wonderful time that needs to have with it an equally awesome soundtrack. You can have the time of your life WITHOUT the explicit lyrics. The last thing that brides and grooms want are F bombs coming out of their DJs' speakers and onto the dance floor at their carefully selected classy Charleston wedding venue. You'll want to read on for some of the reasons to keep the offensive lyrics off your playlist, plus I'll list a few of the "non-club" songs that will need a radio edit if you'd like added to your playlist.
During this time of the year, I'm constantly getting inquiries from prospective brides and grooms who want to hire me to be their Charleston Wedding DJ. Oftentimes the "elephant in the room" is price. While I've certainly published many posts relating to price, it's still always a topic that comes up in conversation. The inpsiration for this blog actually came to me as I was dropping off some items at my neighborhood dry cleaning store. I had been making some small talk with the clerk and told her I had seen another store in a different geographical area offering prices that were significantly lower than what I was being charged. What do you think her response was? "Well, you do get what you pay for." Perhaps that particular store offering the lower prices specialized in "quantity", rather than "quality". After I walked out of the shop, I got in to my truck and immediately began to think about the age old debate of "quality" versus "quantity". As one of the best Charleston Wedding DJs, I started to think how that debate relates to many types of businesses, but especially my DJ company here in Charleston.
Another fantastic year is coming to a close for my company, Mike Bills Entertainment. As I sit back and reflect on this year, I'm so blessed to be working on a passion of mine that continues to build stronger in one of the top wedding destinations of the country. For the 6th consecutive year, Charleston was named Top U.S City by Travel & Leisure Magazine, and we cannot forget Conde Naste crowning Charleston a Top City in the United States for the 8th `straight year. Brides and grooms continue to hit my website from all over the country as they seek to find the best wedding DJ for their destination wedding here in Charleston. While I did not quite eclipse the 100 post mark on the blog like I did back in 2017, it was still another pretty busy and productive year with approximately 85 posts. If you are just now hitting my website for the very first time, thank you so much! Finding the best wedding DJ for your Charleston wedding is something you need to take very seriously. You'll want to click over to my blog and get lost in my musical and DJ world. This second edition to the Complete Guide To Finding Your Charleston Wedding DJ is a spotlight on some of the most popular and informative posts of 2018.
Can you imagine what the world would be like without music? It sure would be boring, wouldn't it? It would definitely be a world where I don't think I would last more than a few days. If you are like most modern brides and grooms, you probably have an Iphone or Android full of your favorite music. The music is probably arranged into numerous playlists. Perhaps you have a "girls night out" playlist, or a playlist you use for your yoga class on Saturday mornings, or even a playlist you use for those heavy duty cardio days. Well, if you are going to go to that great an effort to organize and compartmentalize your music into various activities of your life, then why wouldn't you do the same for one of the most important days of your life. Your Wedding day here in Charleston. You've dreamed about this day coming up here in Charleston. Your guests are coming here from all over the country. The wedding DJ / entertainment you choose for your Charleston wedding must be looked upon as one of the vital pieces of the puzzle to ensure you and your guests have the best time ever. But, still, even as we get ready to turn over into 2019, brides and grooms are still making the same mistakes when selecting their Charleston Wedding DJ. If you've just gotten engaged or will very soon, you'll want to read on.
If you do it the right way when you hire the best wedding DJ for your biggest day in Charleston, you should also be getting a top notch MC. There are some misconceptions about DJs and MCs. Some people I've spoke with believe they are actually two separate people, and that they need to hire both. This is not true. If you hire a true professional wedding DJ, you will not only be getting the person who will properly mix your music throughout your day, but also the one who makes your announcements at the right time to make sure the flow goes smoothly. Mixing your music is important, but hiring someone who can adequately handle all your announcements with the utmost professionalism is equally as important. I cannot emphasize it enough that if your DJ / MC does not sound pleasing on the microphone, you and your guests will be in for a potentially agonizing wedding reception.
