Sometimes the crazy weather that we have down here in Charleston, SC is inspiration for a blog post. The summer of 2018 here in Charleston has been extremely wet. While the local meteorologists say we haven't exactly broken any records, the fact that it's rained 18 out of the past 19 days (at the time of this post) is making it seem all the more wetter. And what do you ask would be my tie in as a wedding DJ with all the summer thunderstorms and monsoon-like rains we've been getting in Charleston? You guessed it. A little rain on your wedding day might be a sign of good luck as you begin your new life together as a couple. As a professional wedding DJ who has endured many summer weddings (partially outdoor) in Charleston, they can be extremely stressful, and have you refreshing the weather radar on your smartphone seeing where the storms are, and if you are ready to get hit. Charleston pretty much has a "sub-tropical" climate with high temperatures and high humidity where rain showers and thunderstorms can pop up faster than the radar can detect them. Even if limited protection from the elements is being used for one of my wedding ceremonies, moisture and electronic equipment do not mix. During the summertime, it takes a stroke of good luck to make it through a wedding ceremony without a few drops of rain. But enough about me and my apparent good luck when it comes performing weddings with threatening weather. Let's talk about how a little rain can be fun and romantic for your Charleston wedding.
I know what you are probably saying. This is just another attempt for Mike to talk more about the music of the 80s again. Well, quoting those famous Billy Joel lyrics, "you may be right" :) One of my specialties as a professional wedding DJ here in Charleston is 80s music. Earlier this year, I had uploaded a few blog posts about some of the music from 1988. I still owe you Part 3 of that series, but today's post explores the rather stark comparison in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 from this time in 1988 versus the same time here in 2018. Mike Bills Entertainment is always on top of NEW music that is just charting and beginning to really take off on the Billboard charts. My company is on the pulse of what's hot on the Top 40, rap, country, as well as the rock charts. In researching the latest Billboard charts for this week here in 2018, approximately 70% of the artists who occupied the first ten spots were rap artists, while 20% were pop, and one artist could simply be put into the R&B category. When we time warp back to 1988, you'll see much more diversity in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer. You'll want to read on as the difference in the music charts between now and 30 years ago is pretty extreme.
It's no secret that when you book your wedding DJ with Mike Bills Entertainment, you are given 100% complete control over the music to be played at your Charleston wedding. It's been my experience over the years that this is the best recipe for an amazing wedding reception. There are some couples who are VERY protective of their playlist. Maybe they saw a disaster of a wedding DJ at their friend's wedding last year? Maybe they are REALLY into their music and want lasting memories for many years to come. But then there are some couples who might not think they have the time to select all their music, so as a result just picked select genres of music or maybe just a handful of songs. Then, they let their DJ use their professional judgement on what songs to "fill in the blanks" with. Making sure that we have the best soundtrack for your big day, and that it will be able to have you and your guests up on the dance floor is no easy task, and involves quite a bit of leg work and analysis, as well as consultation behind the scenes. Ok, the tone of this blog post is about to get funny, so you'll definitely want to read on.
Stop and close your eyes for a minute. Think about this. You'll soon be married to your dream guy or dream girl. You have decided to get married in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You have dreamed about this day for many years. You deserve nothing less than perfection on your wedding day; from the venue to the caterer and everything else in between. As a professional wedding DJ who has forged an impeccable reputation as one of the best Charleston wedding DJs, I want to make sure that you and your family enjoy everything about your day from a musical perspective. I've mentioned in prior posts that your "wedding is never looked on as just another gig" as there is LOTS of activity that is performed behind the scenes to make sure everything is perfect. Your perfect wedding day and soundtrack begins at the time of booking and continues with preparation in the months and days leading up to your wedding day here in Charleston. Because Mike Bills Entertainment is comprised of just "one excellent wedding DJ", you'll have the chance to explain your vision to me without any middle men. Being a professional wedding DJ is something I take very seriously, and I hope as you are on your wedding planning journey that you review my website and see what it is I am all about.
The 4th Of July holiday is here again and it's another hot and humid one here in Charleston, SC. With the holiday being in the middle of the week on a Wednesday, a lot of my friends are pretty much taking the entire week off from work. The 4th Of July holiday is a great day to reflect in the presence of friends and family the independence that our country gained 242 years ago. I do have a bit of a breather today, as well as this weekend with no Charleston weddings on the calendar to DJ, so I'm going to have some relaxation time to celebrate at one of the many 4th Of July events here in the greater Charleston, SC area. From Folly Beach to Sullivan's Island, down to Patriot's Point in Mt Pleasant, over to the beautiful Riverfront Park in North Charleston, there will be no shortage of explosions in the sky this evening. It looks like the rain from this morning will be clearing up just in time for the Charleston Riverdogs to play and wrap up the night with you guessed it, more fireworks! Whatever it is you are doing today, be safe and enjoy your freedom as an American today with this playlist from one of the best Charleston wedding DJs. Have a happy 4th of July from Mike Bills Entertainment.
Happy Birthday America! Thank you very much for finding my website and blog. With July 4th being right smack dab in the middle of the week this year, most everyone I know has been in "holiday" or "vacation" mode all week long. One of the premier wedding websites, Weddingwire.com reported in one of their blog posts that July 4th is one of the Top 10 most popular days during the year to get engaged. On their list, July 4th was actually the only day outside the time period between November and February to make the list. You know what? It makes perfect sense. Let's set the stage. You and your signficant other have made it a point to be together among family and friends. You are all having an amazing time grilling burgers and hot dogs and going for a swim at the beach, the lake, or in your closest swimming pool. As the sun begins to set, you both are enjoying some nice, cold watermelon before the fireworks begin. As a primer for the fireworks, you begin to hear some wonderful patriotic music begin to play in the background. All of a sudden, it's a little after 9pm, and the both of you are eagerly anticipating the beginning of the fireworks. Despite it being a bit hot, you hold hands and give each other hugs just as the fireworks begin. Then, he looks over at you and sees your enjoyment and the reflection of the fireworks in your eyes. Your eyes begin to look a little misty. Then, it happens. He asks you to marry him. You say "yes", and let out a scream, and all of a sudden all the spectators around you begin to cheer. Congratulations are in order as the fireworks display hits it climax and you share a kiss with your new fiance. Please read on, it gets even better. :)
When Mike Bills Entertainmment was founded, the goal at the time was to create an exceptional wedding DJ service and experience that would have brides and grooms and their guests talking for years and years after the biggest day of their lives. Another goal was to remove the fear factor associated with hiring your Charleston wedding DJ. What is this fear factor you ask? Well, let me refresh your memory. Do you remember that incredibly tacky wedding DJ that your cousin hired last summer? Do you remember how you felt after that disastrous day? If you are like any of the bride's that I have spoken with over the years, you probably left your cousins wedding in fear that when you got married, you might end up with the same type of embarrassing wedding DJ at your wedding. You know what I am talking about when I say "embarrassing"? :) Embarrassing easily equates to "cheesy", and cheesy would mean one of those overbearing and offensive personalities who likes to wear gaudy and tacky leisure suits. As the years have passed by, the brand that defines Mike Bills Entertainment as one of the top wedding DJs in Charleston has continued to evolve and become crystal clear. Why should you be concerned about a wedding DJs brand? Trust me, I am just getting started. You'll want to read on and learn more.
If this is the first time you've visited my website and blog, welcome to my musical world. Producing these posts for my clients is very therapeutic to me. The truth of the matter is I love music and as your professional wedding DJ should you decide to get married in the holy city of Charleston, you'll be hiring a guy who will see to it that your soundtrack and playlist is the most memorable ever. Since the current iteration of my website went live nearly 2 years ago this July, I've managed to keep the blog full of DJ tips, playlist ideas, and other important audio and podcasts designed for brides and grooms seeking the best Charleston Wedding DJ. The traffic statistics to my blog do not go without notice and I've been reviewing in recent weeks some of the most popular posts. Back in April of 2017, I published a post for some dinner music ideas that included some of the biggest soft rock hits from the 80s. Now, close to 14 months later, this post has become one of the top 5 most visited posts on my DJ blog. It's gotten traffic from all over the world. For more musical inspiration, I clicked back over to this post to review some of the selections. I was reminded how awesome it was to grow up in the 80s and hear all these amazing soft rock artists. Maybe if you are of a certain age, you'd think of a lot of these artists as your "parents music". They might be, and believe me, you'll want to read on for an incredible 80s Soft Rock sequel.
Through the power of internet web search and one of my best friend's (Google), Christy's mother found me last summer and inquired about my services. Christy and Clayton had met here in Charleston while the both of them were in college. Christy had been attending the College Of Charleston, and Clayton was attending the Citadel. After graduation, they moved to Atlanta, and that is actually where they are living currently. They had their wedding ceremony at the Summerall Chapel, which is on the campus of the Citadel on the afternoon of Saturday, April 21, and I had the pleasure of being their DJ for their cocktail hour and wedding reception. Their wedding reception was held at Marion's In The French Quarter, which is located at 159 East Bay Street. It had been a while since I had been to Marion's, but it didn't take me long to remember what a beautiful place it is to hold a Charleston wedding reception or private event. Marion's literally is right smack dab in the middle of the historic downtown Charleston district. It's just a quick walk away from the beautiful Charleston harbor, and those famous cobblestone streets that tell you that you are in Charleston. Read on for some of the great songs that Christy & Clayton chose for their playlist,
Since I've got a bit of relaxing downtime on this Memorial Day weekend, I thought I would catch up on a few blogs from some of my 2018 spring weddings here in Charleston. Becky and Josh were married at the lovely Hyatt House in the heart of the Charleston Historic District at 560 King St back on April 14. I was the DJ for their wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I met Becky and Josh, along with Becky's mother back in January. I knew from the some of the comments made during our first meeting that we were going to be putting together a playlist that was quite a bit different that what you hear at most other Charleston weddings. But, as the old saying goes: "Different is good." How was the music going to be different?" Well, I knew when her mom said she liked Led Zeppelin and Alice In Chains that things were going to be dramatically different. :) With bands like that, I definitely knew there was going to be some classic rock thrown into the mix at some point. You'll want to read on and see what they added to their Charleston wedding playlist.
