Today's blog post begins with an excerpt of a recent review I had received from one of my clients. "From the moment we met with Mike, we knew he was the DJ for us. After hitting his website and reading through all of his reviews, it was a no-brainer to hire Mike, and he turned out to be the big reason for the huge success of our wedding day in Charleston. From start to finish, Mike was there for us and just an email or text away with answers to any of our questions about the major parts of our wedding ceremony and reception. We weren't worried about a thing when we finally got to our wedding day........." You know it never gets old to receive reviews like this. I love taking care of my clients. The review would also go on to explain that in the days and months after this couple booked me that I would become a friend to them and since they were planning their Charleston wedding from a distance that I set them at ease". If you are a bride or groom and are planning a wedding in the near future and are in the hunt for one of the best Charleston wedding DJs, you really need to read on to see what it is you'll be getting if you contract me for your wedding and why booking directly through a small service instead of an agency is one of the best decisions you'll make.
If you are just hitting my blog for the first time, welcome! You've actually caught me at my 2nd stop on my exclusive Charleston Wedding DJ tour of some of the most popular and most gorgeous wedding venues. It's hard to find a place in Charleston to have your wedding that is not rich with history and beauty. Charleston is one of the most romantic cities in the world with it's vast history and numerous other offerings making it a huge draw for couples coming here from large cities like Chicago, New York City, Boston, and beyond. As one of the best Charleston wedding DJs, I wanted to add some more helpful content into my website to assist clients who might be searching for the ideal place to hold their Charleston wedding.
Recently in between weddings and private events, I've been finding myself heading out to the beach to enjoy what has become a rather HOT Fall wedding season here in Charleston. While temperatures in the lower 90s are not totally out of the ordinary during the first week of October, they might be a bit of a downer for those brides coming down to the Holy City expecting some cooler Fall breezes. Despite being in the thick of the Fall rush with weddings and other private parties, some of my focus has begun to flip calendars over to 2019. It's hard to believe we're only about 6 weeks away from the start of yet another engagement season here in Charleston.
During my travels a few weeks ago downtown as I was running some last minute errands before beginning my "hurrication" in St Augustine, FL for Hurricane Florence, I stopped by The Cedar Room. Ever since the consecutive "Best City" and "Top City" awards have been bestowed upon our beautiful city of Charleston, SC, the wedding industry has seen exponential growth. Within this boom in the Charleston wedding industry, we've also seen the opening of many beautiful wedding venues, and one of those is The Cedar Room, which is located at the Cigar Factory in downtown Charleston at 701 East Bay Street.
For the fourth year in a row, being a professional wedding vendor here in Charleston has become quite the stressful career, especially when the months of September and October come along. Back during the latter part of September 2015, Hurricane Joaquin was lingering off the East coast and actually did wreak havoc on the Bahamas. Fortunately, the storm did not make a direct hit on the South Carolina coast near Charleston, but instead interacted with another weather system close to Charleston to create torrential rains across the area. This weather event would become known as the 1000 Year Flood in SC. It occurred around the first weekend of October 2015, which is a prime wedding weekend here in one of the top wedding destinations in the country. That Saturday (October 3, 2015), I had a wedding in the Summerville area, but I talked to numerous vendors who had downtown weddings that were either cancelled or took place at different locations and dates.
Since the inception of Mike Bills Entertainment, it's been my goal as one of the top wedding DJs in Charleston to help construct an amazing soundtrack and mix of music that is tailored to each wedding, private party or event with their likes and dislikes. When you give each couple the 100% latitude and "say-so" about what they would like to hear at their Charleston wedding, something truly amazing begins to happen. People have fun, and that "fun" creates indelible, lasting images that you and your guests will remember for a very long time. While it's certainly my goal to make each and every wedding or event completely about the guests and the bride and groom, there are actually quite a few songs that continue to be some of the hottest and most popular requests at Charleston weddings. You'll want to read on to see some of the 40 most popular Charleston wedding music standards still on the request lists today, and what will probably be for many years to come.
Do I have your attention? After the long Labor Day weekend full of fun music posts, I was reading over some internet articles and came across some startling statistics in regards to brides and grooms and how they actually felt "after" their wedding. The Knot had done some post wedding research and had arrived at these statistics. If 72% of brides were not satisfied with their wedding DJ, does that mean that those brides had bad DJs? My answer to that question would be not necessarily. While there are certainly still some bad DJs out there, the real reason why nearly 3/4 of all brides polled were not happy is because they hired the wrong DJ or the wrong entertainment. Brides spend a lot of money on the most beautiful location and wedding venue, their food, and hire one of the finest photographers, but for whatever reason their wedding entertainment is still not given nearly the focus as the many other moving parts of their wedding day.
You've been thinking about this day since the moment he proposed to you. You've hired an exceptional Charleston wedding planner who has taken care of ALL the fine details of what will be the happiest day of your life. You have hired one of the best Charleston wedding DJs to choreograph your very special wedding ceremony and reception with an amazing mix of music that will have you and your guests on the dance floor all night long and talking for many years after the big day. You go to bed the night before after your rehearsal dinner over at Leon's Oyster Shop downtown on the peninsula in Charleston and you just can't sleep. You are too excited because you keep thinking about how perfect this day is going to be. You get a big smile on your face when you think about him all dressed up in his tux. All of a sudden you realize the sun is coming up on the morning of your wedding day and you have barely slept a wink. You sit up in your bed and have a brief moment of reflection about the huge life changing event that is happening to you today. You feel a little groggy due to a lack of sleep, so you call room service to have your favorite coffee drink delivered to your room. Don't go anywhere! The fun is about ready to begin.
Hope everyone is continuing to have a restful and relaxing Labor Day Weekend here in Charleston. As I mentioned in my last post, this weekend kicks off the Fall wedding season here in Charleston. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have off this weekend and went out to one of the most beautiful beaches on the East coast; Kiawah Island. Check out my Twitter or Instagram for some videos that I uploaded of my outing. Since it's the holiday weekend, I figure I would continue with the fun posts and give Hotlanta some love. Being the Number 2 Wedding Destination in the country, Charleston gets a lot of brides and grooms from the big cities like Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, and Chicago coming to the Holy City to get married. In the past, I've created individual posts for those cities and featured musicians that were from those particular cities. Oftentimes, when couples hire me from those particular geographical locations, they add some of those artists into their playlists for their Charleston wedding. As one of the best Charleston wedding DJs, I can tell you that Atlanta is a hot bed for musical talent and you'll see that a lot of the artists added to this post are in fairly heavy rotation at Charleston weddings.
It's Labor Day Weekend. The fall wedding season has officially begun in Charleston, but I was lucky enough to be off this weekend. Since it's the unofficial end of summer and everyone out there in Charleston is heading out to the beach for one last time, I figured I would make it a fun post for Day 1 of this long weekend. Being one of Charleston's top 80s DJs, I have blogged quite a bit about my love of 80s music. But you know in all my blogging, I have neglected to speak about the vast amount of One Hit Wonders we saw back during the decade of decadence. The One Hit Wonders of the 80s spanned across multiple genres ranging from rock to pop to R&B and hip-hop. When it comes to creating the playlist for your Charleston wedding or event, you really can't go wrong when you throw in some of the greatest hits of the 80s.
