    REAL CHARLESTON WEDDINGS

Mike Bills Entertainment has forged an impeccable reputation in Charleston over the years and has become one of the best Charleston Wedding DJs. It's been my belief from Day 1 that it is the "music" that truly matters when it comes to creating the overall vibe and feel of what will become one of the most special days of your life. While other DJs seems to be more interested in booking their next "gig" and playing with their twinkle lights or uplights, my focus will continue to remain solely on the music. You ever wonder what the best DJs do when they are not talking on the mic and spinning music? They are researching, researching, and researching even more. Their ear is on the radio, other blogs, and their eyes are on the Billboard Hot 100 charts seeing what is exactly trending.

The fall wedding season is here in Charleston and pretty soon we'll be looking ahead to a brand new decade next year in 2020. I've been getting a lot of traffic to the website in recent weeks with brides and grooms having their wedding in 2020 so I thought I would put together a quick primer stating some of the 10 most important reasons to hire a professional Charleston Wedding DJ.  If you have made the decision to get married in Charleston in 2020, you are probably in the midst of planning a spectacular affair at one of the area's fine wedding venues.  Charleston, SC has so much to offer the modern bride and groom when it comes to getting married.  We've got some of the best wedding vendors in the country living right here ready to help you put together an amazing day.  You are getting married to the true love of your life. It was a truly perfect moment during the proposal. At that very moment you both began to draw a picture in yourmind of the perfect day. This perfect day would be full of your best friends and family, one of the most beautiful wedding venues and a delicious menu from one of the top caterers in the Holy City.  Hiring a professional wedidng DJ will be the cherry on the top of an absolutely perfect night, but it's not a decision to take lightly.

The summer engagement season has come and gone here in Charleston.  Even though we're still in the midst of the peak of another active hurricane season, it was such a huge relief to get past Hurricane Dorian with mostly some minor damage here in the Holy City.  Believe me, seeing these hurricanes threaten Charleston in recent years is equally as stressful for me as a wedding vendor, as it is for my clients.  When you are spending a lot of money to have the best day ever you need to have at your disposal great content for your research when it comes to finding your dream wedding venue, as well as the best wedding vendors. Since Charleston has catapulted itself into being one of the top wedding destinations, there have been some great blogs that have emerged over the years. These wedding blogs are wonderful sources of inpsiration. Perhaps you just got engaged and needs some new ideas? These blogs are some of the best that have caught my eye that deal with Southern weddings, and even more importantly weddings right here in Charleston.

After DJing as many Charleston weddings as I have worked over the years in this beautiful city, there are definitely the tried and true classic songs that you know. The best Charleston Wedding DJs will know when to play the right song at the right time. Unless you implement a moratorium on NO Requests, your guests are most likely going to approach the the DJ and try to request their favorite song. What are your guests listening to these days? This is something I tell my couples to try to gauge as they plan the music for their wedding. Who is going to be there? Will all your sorority sisters be there from college?  How about all your frat brothers?  What are some of the songs that are sure to get your dance floor hopping? Some of the songs you see on this post are probably no-brainers. Some of them on here are overplayed, but that's because they have garnered mass appeal at Charleston weddings over the years.  Some of them are fairly new but are most likely going to be around for many years to come. When you are planning the music for your wedding, you need to hire a wedding DJ that is going to design the perfect mix of music for your big day so that ALL your guests can get out on the dance floor.  You know your 75 year old grandmother is probably going to be there and she'd like to dance to that 60s classic "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by Frankie Valli.  And of course, your mom and dad who dated in the 80s may want to hear something from the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack.

Offering wedding ceremony music and proper PA and microphones is one of the other offerings I provide as a wedding DJ. The best Charleston Wedding DJs will be able to provide this music in a professional manner for your wedding ceremony at any location around Charleston. I've blogged in the past about wedding ceremony music, but since the summer's in Charleston tend to be slower than fall and spring, I thought I would throw together a refresher about what your DJ should be providing you when you need them to do your ceremony music.   Your wedding ceremony is the beginning of an incredible night. It's a very special part of your day that requires not only special planning, but also special equipment.  Even if your wedding ceremony is located at the wedding reception site, additional sound equipment is required.  The true professional wedding DJs will be equipped to handle any situation. Because I am a stickler for details, I will (if needed) make the effort with the wedding coordinator / planner to schedule a site survey to see where I will be set up for a wedding ceremony.  There is no room for error when preparing for a wedding ceremony and the number one request is the location of power. This provides peace of mind for not only me, but also the bride and the wedding coordinator / planner.

No matter the location of your Charleston wedding, your aim should be to make it a classy and elegant affair filled with the music you know and love. Whether it's a laid back afternoon and evening at grandmother's house in Summerville or a grand and luxurious affair at the Kiawah Island Club, brides and grooms should be aiming for a classy and elegant vibe. When I decided to create Mike Bills Entertainment, one of the primary goals was to alleviate any and all fears of hiring a tacky and cheap wedding DJ. While my humble beginnings as a DJ began back in the mid 1990s on the radio, I had a very brief stint as a wedding DJ back in the early 2000s working for a company here in town.  It was so brief that I am surprised I was able to remember it, but I was able to remember it because I did NOT have a good time! Despite it's brevity, there were quite a few things back then that I observed that would forever alter my perceptions of professional wedding DJs and how they "should" act. Opinions would be formed that would put together my mission statement for how I would run my own company.  The wedding DJ you hire is there to compliment your big day, not get on the microphone and say their name all night or hang tacky signs or banners.  But I digress from talking about the type of wedding DJ you should hire. You'll want to read on to find out something that I decided was not as important, and that I opted to leave out of my wedding performances, but still earned me a solid reputation as one of the top Charleston Wedding DJs.

All over my wedding DJ blog, I've put a lot of emphasis on Charleston brides and grooms choosing their first dance song. I've published all sorts of ideas ranging from the style of your first dance to different genre choices for that very special moment of your day. While the first dance song is still probably one of the single most important songs of your big day, your last song of the night needs to be looked at equally as much.  Your last song of the night needs some love and attention too.  You will probably notice that your wedding day has flown by. It's gone by so fast that you probably won't want it to end, so at the end of the night you'll become flooded with all sorts of emotion.  If you have done your due diligence and hired one of the best Charleston Wedding DJs, you most likely will be having the time of your life on this day and won't want it to end. You might even be tempted to ask your DJ just a wee bit longer. Be sure to discuss with your DJ how you'd like your night to end.  If you have not began to give your last dance song any thought, you'll want to read on to get some great ideas on how to end the night.

It really should go without saying that the entertainment at your Charleston wedding should be your Number 1 priority. Besides the total cost of your wedding DJ, how is my company really different from all the other DJs in Charleston?  My company has a business model that is quite a bit different than a lot of the other companies you'll come across as you search for DJs online. I decided when I became a wedding DJ that I was going to do what some of the great DJs have done in the past and continue to do today, and that is putting an emphasis on the designing the perfect soundtrack for a bride and groom's wedding day. From the wedding ceremony to the cocktail hour and dinner all the way to the time your dance floor begins to get full, the music has got to be perfectly curated and organized. And when you combine all of the above with the need to make all the necessary announcements and adhere to a timeline that your wedding coordinator / planner has created, being a wedding DJ is a tough and oftentimes "high pressure" job.   But when you love what you do as I do, it does not feel like a job! :)  The reward comes when I see all the planning play out and a couple has the time of their lives from start to finish.

As you search for the best DJ for your Charleston wedding that will go the distance in being the best fit for you as a couple, it's going to be blatantly obvious that you are going to run into a rather wide range in prices. Now I bet I know what you are saying. "Here comes Mike again with another long-winded post about Charleston Wedding DJ prices." Well, my answer to you would be "sort of".  I'm always doing wedding DJ market research (95% of which is outside the Charleston area), and when I see something that can spin the importance of finding the best wedding DJ another way, I'm happy to share that information with my prospective clients. Engagement season has passed here in Charleston, but I still get pinged on throughout the year for bookings and oftentimes I get the question on why my prices are higher than other DJ companies here in Charleston. The answer to that question is not simple, but to get us started, I will tell you that I like to think I give my clients "extra service and attention". That extra service and attention begins with the fact I am an "owner-operated" DJ service, which means you'll work with me from the time you submit a contact form on my website through the contract process, as well as music planning until the last song is played at your wedding reception.

Made Our Wedding Perfect

Before choosing Mike Bills as our wedding DJ, we looked at several companies and DJs and looked over the reviews for all of them. We chose Mike Bills because of the overwhelmingly great reviews he got and I am so glad we did! They were all spot on! Mike was great to work with, quick to respond, came to our rehearsal to do a run through with us.

Professional and Creative

Mike was kind, courteous, professional, and creative! We thoroughly enjoyed working with him for our destination wedding at Folly Beach. We gave Mike minimal guidance and he caught on to our "style" quickly and efficiently. Our guests are still raving about the music selections, and how they were a great balance of new tracks and standards for everyone to enjoy.
