5 Reasons To Host An 80s Party In Charleston By One Of The Best Wedding DJs

21 July 2018

It's no secret that I am one of the biggest fans of 80s music in Charleston. When you grow up in the decade of decadence like I did, it's sort of hard NOT to be. Having gotten my start as a DJ on several Charleston radio stations, I had the opportunity to dust off all those classic hits from the 80s on air during the major 80s nostalgia period we experienced back in the early 2000s. These types of "nostalgia" periods seem to occur once every decade. Around the early 2010s, we saw a resurgence in the interest of all things 90s, and as we approach 2020, there will be an interest in nostalgia dating back to the early 2000s. Even though that the 80s Nostalgia period has sort of passed, the memories of the 80s are continuing to live on through our love of the incredible music that was created during such a happy and party-filled decade. While the bulk of my energies will continue to be one of the best Charleston wedding DJs, I wanted to begin a push to branch out and begin offering these 80s parties and nostalgia events at select venues in and around the Charleston, SC area. Having an 80s nostalgia night can add another fun dimension into your monthly entertainment. Pull out those parachute pants and get a little extra Aqua Net hair spray, here are 5 reasons why you need to have an 80s party in Charleston right now.

Reason #1 | The Music: 80s Girl Power | Ladies Night

If you are seeking an angle for your monthly 80s nostalgia event, you might consider a Totally 80s Ladies Night. Maybe you are just starting a Ladies night and want to do something special? Reason #2: The Music: Those Hair Bands
One of the most fun places to live during the 80s would have been the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. Beginning in the early 80s with bands like Motley Crue and Poison, the glam metal scene was alive and well and continued to gain popularity even as the 80s ended. This genre of music during the 80s promoted one thing: PARTYING. Oh yes! For these bands it was a 24 hour "decadent" non-stop party day in and day out. If you are interested in having an 80s nostalgia event or private party, I'll be sure to throw in some of the fun party music from the biggest glam metal bands.

The 80s were a decade full of one-hit wonders that when you hear them are pretty much guaranteed to put you in a great mood. From Men Without Hats "The Safety Dance", to "Relax" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell, you cannot help but get a smile on your face. Down below are some more One Hit Wonders that are sure to make for a great time during your 80s party.

Reason #4: The Music: Because You Love 80s Hip Hop & Rap Artists
If it's got to be an 80s party, you've got to kick it with some old school 80s hip hop and rap. Whether it's going back to the start of the decade with "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang or you'd like to "Push It" with Salt & Pepa, throwing in some of this old school hip hop and rap into the mix is another way to celebrate one of the best decades in music. Do you remember when Run DMC collaborated with Aerosmith for "Walk This Way"? You couldn't turn on MTV in the mid - late 80s without seeing Run DMC, and then there were the Beastie Boys with "Fight For Your Right". The 80s were filled with so many different artists and genres that when you throw them all together, you are going to have one TOTALLY awesome party.

As you begin to put together the plans for your 80s nostalgia event, encourage your guests to dress like it was the 80s.  Be sure to find some acid-washed jeans and denim jackets, as well as some leg warmers, jelly bracelets, and parachute pants. And don't forget the jelly bracelets and other assorted neon clothing.
