The Right DJ For Your Wedding - How Weddings Can Get Ruined

29 October 2016

Today marks Part 2 of the blog series that began earlier this week in regards to hiring the right DJ for your wedding.  I’ve blogged about it and even produced podcasts about it earlier this year. They were the advantages and disadvantages of hiring a multi-system DJ service. There never could have been a more perfect time to blog and educate my future brides and grooms about this than right now as news broke about a local DJ service booking weddings and taking the money and running.

Each and every year, multi-system DJ companies book and overbook a couple’s wedding date and as result they ruin the biggest day of a couple’s lives. This isn’t something that just began to happen, it’s been a dirty and shady sales tactic for years.   By overbooking wedding dates, these companies look to triple or quadruple their income on any given day without providing any services at all. See the news story and link below.

Charleston DJ service may end up in court after leaving brides at the altar

Even worse, these DJ services will often send an inexperienced wedding DJ to your wedding and pay that particular DJ a fraction of what your total investment was at the time of booking. It’s a way they like to make a profit in this business, but it’s also a way that the biggest day of your life gets ruined. Completely ruined.

Mike Bills Entertainment has a simple model for success and excellence. If you hire “me” as your DJ, you are going to get “me” as your DJ. It’s really as simple as that. It is my belief that duplication in the wedding DJ industry simply does not exist. It doesn’t exist in personality, professionalism, and equipment. The only way it could exist would be if you employed computerized robots.

A discjockey is a person who is hired to mix recorded music. Mike Bills Entertainment has ONE and only one speciality. Music.  Whether that is ceremony music, cocktail hour music, and reception music.  I think it’s best to do one thing and do it EXCELLENT.  My company has never gotten caught up in providing all the flashy “extras”. If you need incredible string lighting and uplighting, look at my preferred vendors page.I work with one of the best in Charleston.  If you want an excellent cab service (with air conditioning) and reliability, I just teamed up with Charleston Black Cab company. If you are still seeking a professional photographer / videographer, once again, hit my preferred vendors page. What do all those vendors have in common? They do one thing and do it very well.

Then you have the DJs who will call their couples 1 -2 days in advance of their special day and let them know that they are sick, even though they are good and well.  Many brides and grooms are unaware of any of these tactics at the time of booking, but you need to be. They are unaware of these tactics because in many instances the “entertainment” of a couple’s wedding is booked last minute. But truth be told, 81% of all brides stated they wish they had spent more time and resources on the  entertainment for their wedding. See below for the podcast from earlier this year.

I take what I do seriously. Very seriously.  As serious as a heart attack. I nearly had one when I read the story that was released about the DJ service in Charleston ripping off many brides. See above link if you have not already. I was trying to imagine what each and every one of those brides must have felt like when their wedding day came and they had no DJ come and set up. It seems unimaginable and absolutely deplorable. There are no second chances when you are hired as a wedding DJ. You are booked, you help plan their music, you show up, you set up, perform and go home. You are there and are forever ingrained in the minds of the bride and groom and the guests.  There is never a “Take 2” for someone’s wedding day. Every musical detail of that couple’s wedding day must be explored and discussed prior to their wedding day.

Mike Bills Entertainment operates very differently than any other DJ service, at least here in Charleston.  The way the rest of the wedding DJ industry conducts itself will not ever affect how I operate my company.  My brides and grooms are not just “numbers”, they are awesome people who have gone over to my website, read the FAQs and have decided to put their trust in me to provide an exceptional wedding DJ experience. From the lower cost weddings to the very expensive weddings, it is my aim to conduct my business with the utmost integrity and ethics and treat all couples with the same level of fairness.

We’ve only just scratched the surface in this topic. Look for Part 3 of this blog series to be published in the  next few days. If you can't wait for Part 3 and are convinced that Mike should be your DJ, click this link. Meet Mike Now
